Lamoni, IA-The Jacket baseball team took full advantage of the spring like weather that's making it's way through the midwest. With temperatures forcasted to be in the mid 70's in Kansas City on Friday, Rockhurst University and Graceland decided to move up their scheduled double header in order to get some early season games in. Rockhurst, an NCAA Division II school, is the type of team the Jackets are looking to guage their high expectations on the season against. The teams would split the opening double header as Graceland won game one 7-4 and dropped game two 10-4.
The Jackets were paced in game 1 by senior centerfielder Angel Suarez (Vieques, Puerto Rico). Suarez was 4-4 including 4 RBI's in the Jacket victory. Pitcher Carlos Soto (Caracas, Venezuela) earned the victory and sophomore Garrett Grundman (Croswell, MI) got the save.
In game two the Jacket bats went cold going a combined 6-29 in the contest. Suarez did however pick up another hit in the game giving him an excellent 5-7 double header.
The Jackets will travel to Oklahoma next Friday to play Bacone College Friday night. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage on the baseball team and all of Jacket athletics.
