Des Moines, IA-The #6 Jacket women's soccer team didn't get the start they were looking for in their opener Friday night. Graceland, coming off of their 2008 campaign in which they reached the elite eight of the NAIA National Tournament, tied Judson College (Illinois) 1-1 in double overtime.
The first half of play Friday sported two teams trying to feel their way through normal first game of the season jitters. Judson would strike first however as they scored late in the first half on a free kick just outside the 18 that slipped passed Jacket goalie Leslie Danner (Raytown, MO) giving Judson a 1-0 lead. It would remain that way until late in regulation when Jacket forward Karina Vega (Asuncion, Paraguay) was fouled inside the box and was able to convert on her PK attempt, knotting the game 1-1. The Jackets dominated overtime but were unable to find the back of the net and the game would end in a 1-1 tie.
