KCKCC Invitational
Kansas City, KS-Senior Sam Chester (Phoenix, AZ) played his last golf match as a Yellowjacket in the same type of weather that he experienced when he first came to Iowa to visit - cool, cloudy, and windy. Chester's efforts have never been diminished by poor conditions as he has always played with intensity and devotion and he fired a 174 (86-88) in tough conditions over the nearly 6900 yard Dub's Dread golf course in Kansas City, Kansas. "Sam has brought a lot of stability to the golf team," commented Coach Brunner. "I appreciate Sam and the way he has conducted himself on and off the golf course. He is a model of integrity and will be missed in the future." There is still some talk that Sam may return for the spring season but at this point he intends to graduate in December and then pursue other golfing and career opportunities.
Leading the team for the tournament was Junior Matt Mickelson (Lamoni, IA) who finished 10th overall and fired a 160 (83-77). Matt was followed by Senior Adam Craig (Stouffville, ONT) who shot 161 (83-78). Rounding out the team were Sophomore Trent Ranney (Lamoni, IA) who scored 162 (81-81), Sophomore Tim Redding (Grand River, IA) shot 165 (81-84), and Sophomore Mikhail Ziskos (East York, ONT) managed a 174 (86-88). The team scored 648 (328-320) and finished 4th the 14 team field. "Considering the conditions, I think we played well and in fact this may have been the best we have played on this course," stated Coach Brunner.
Others making the trip were Sophomore Ryan Martin (Pella, IA) who fired 174 (81-93), Sophomore Jesse Still (Mt. Ayr, IA) shot 178 (93-85), and Freshmen Tanner Gard (Independence, MO) scored 231 (105-126).
