Lamoni, IA-Since tying their first two games of the season, the #10 Jacket women's soccer team has only one blemish on their record in 13 games.  Saturday in Lamoni, the Jackets (12-1-2) hosted conference foe MidAmerica Nazarene (7-7-1) at the Rasmussen sports complex.  After a slow start in the first half, the Jackets dominated the second half and cruised to a 3-1 victory.

MidAmerica was able to get on the board first in the seventh minute as Rebecca McAndrew scored for the Pioneers.  After the Jacket defense buckled down to finish off the half, the offense wasn't able to come up with a counter score and it would remain 1-0 MidAmerica heading into halftime.

The second half however, was an entirely different story.  Following some halftime adjustments by coach Wagenaar, the entire dynamic of the team changed.  Coach Wagenaar placed forward Karina Vega (Asuncion, Paraguay) in the midfield allowing for more play making at the position and the move paid huge dividends.  Vega scored two goals in the half, one on a PK and another on a beautiful strike from outside the eighteen.  Conference scoring leader Chelsea Phillips (Granada Hills, CA) added another goal late as the Jackets put the 3-1 victory away.

"Tonight the we faced a MidAmerica Nazarene team who showed themselves to be one of the top teams in the conference by beating previously unbeaten Baker and further showed their prowess by ending the first half one goal up on us," said Wagenaar following the game. "The Lady Yellowjackets showed their character as well however by fighting back to a great 3-1 victory. We showed great possesion skills I felt and put sustained pressure on them all night. Only a great game by the MidAmerican keeper kept the score from going higher. We are really looking forward to the last three games and we hope to carry on our winning ways," finished Wagenaar.

Graceland now stands at 12-1-2 overall and 6-0 in HAAC play.  The Jackets will head to rival Benedictine College on Tuesday for what should be an exciting matchup with the #20 Benedictine Ravens.  Tuesday's game is slated to begin at 5pm.  Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the women's soccer team and all of Jacket athletics.
