Atchison, KS-Graceland continues its roll of women's soccer victories with a dominating 5-0 defeat of Benedictine down in Atchison, KS. The Jackets, buoyed by spectacular play from its offensive attackers, were unstoppable in what is without a doubt an enormous win against the Ravens, the soccer program's longtime nemesis.
The Jackets took over from the get-go with an unassisted goal by Chelsea Phillips (Granada Hills, CA) in the 18th minute. Phillips put a second score in the net in the 42nd minute just before the halftime bell struck with an assist by Shay Eskridge (Rowlett, TX) to put the GU side up 2-0 as the teams headed to the locker room.
The second half saw another offensive explosion led by Eskridge, who played with reckless abandon even by the standards of an altogether dazzling Graceland performance. Shay assisted Gisela Arrieta (Valledupar, Colombia) in the 59th minute and, after a Karina Vega (Asuncion, Paraguay) solo job in the 68th minute, scored one of her own unassisted in the 78th minute of the contest.
The Graceland defense was spectacular as usual, allowing only seven shots on goal over the course of the evening against thirteen attempted by the Jackets.
"Tonight the Lady Yellowjackets were at the top of their game," said Coach Fred Wagenaar. "They showed great poise, good possession skills and outstanding finishing. It was a superb team effort to topple Benedictine 5-0."
Graceland now stands at 13-1-2 overall and 7-0 in HAAC play. The Jackets will face the always troublesome Lindenwood University at home on Saturday, October 31st at Rasmussen Field in Lamoni.
