Lamoni, IA-The Graceland men's basketball squad drops their home opener to William Penn by a close 72-75 spread.  The Jackets were unable to close the deal in a competitive battle with a very good Statesmen side.

The Jackets could not take advantage of numerous opportunities late to maintain the lead which they took into halftime in a game which was back and forth throughout the entire affair. Graceland was very competitive and showed flashes of excellence during the game.

Senior guard Jewel Carter (Kansas City, KS) led scoring for Graceland with 24 points (11-15 FG), adding 4 boards to the team effort.  Junior swingman Jake Smith (Mt. Vernon, IN) added 10 points to go with his 9 rebounds. Junior guard Tyler Raach added 18 points, with five coming from a perfect night at the free throw line.

The Jackets stand at 0-1 overall and will face University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, KS this Monday, November 2, at 7:00 pm. Stay tuned to the Jacket athletics website for continuing coverage of the women's basketball and all of Jacket athletics.
