Graceland University ushers in a new gilded age of carrying it forward in higher education.
An event-filled, action-packed week of commemoration and celebration with the Lamoni and Independence campus communities culminated in the inauguration of Graceland University’s 19th president.
In the company of his family, friends and mentors, a festive ceremony welcomed Joel D. Shrock, PhD, as he officially took office in his tireless commitment to carry it forward—be it in dress shoes, classic sports sneakers in bold blue and gold, or on roller skates.

“This university is a bulwark against ignorance, isolationism, jingoism, and parochialism. Graceland promotes knowledge and understanding, the interconnectedness of humanity, and broad-mindedness. It asks us, ‘What do we owe our neighbors? How can we support each other?’ It is not about narrow self-interest.” – Joel D. Shrock
