Graceland University Professor of Psychology Brian Smith, PhD
Graceland University Professor of Psychology Brian Smith, PhD, co-hosted two sessions at the Lilly Conference on Teaching and Learning In Higher Education in Bethesda, Maryland, May 30–June 2. With Sal Meyers, Simpson College, Brian conducted a roundtable discussion titled “What’s in Your Teaching Toolbox? Learning Activities for Any Course.”
Smith and Meyers also shared a 50-minute session, “Equipping Students to Overcome Challenges,” which focused on syllabus revisions and activities designed to help students overcome challenges, whether personal or social, that harm their cognitive resources (see Verschelden’s Bandwidth Recovery).
Additionally, Smith was invited to be one of 10 inaugural Lilly Ambassadors, a group of “faculty and administrators who embody the Lilly Spirit: a collaborative community of scholars sharing, discussing, critiquing, and reflecting upon improving teaching and learning.” The ambassadors hosted Lilly first-timers during a Lilly orientation session.
