Graceland University Assistant Professor of English Catherine Clifford and colleague Simone Chess organized and ran a research seminar on the topic “Asexual Reading” at the annual Shakespeare Association of America conference, held remotely this year between March 30th and April 3rd. The seminar brought together 11 scholars interested in developing new methodologies for understanding asexuality in early modern literature, an emerging sub-discipline of early modern studies. The resulting body of scholarship, along with the two-hour seminar held on Friday of the conference, advanced several exciting new pathways for the field.
