LAMONI, IOWA (November 25, 2012)—Graceland University’s annual Christmas at the Shaw concert took place Sunday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Shaw Family Auditorium. A “cookies and hot chocolate” reception began at 6:30 p.m. in the Shaw Atrium and a special Christmas Tree Lighting took place at 7 p.m.
The concert was free and open to the public. Graceland President John Sellars cordially invited staff, alumni, students and friends to “…come out and stay for the evening of great music, hot chocolate and holiday fun.”
Graceland’s Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Brass Choir and Flute Choir participated, showcasing the wide variety of student musical talent at Graceland.
Graceland Director of Bands Frank Perez urged the community to come to the Shaw Center after its 15-month expansion and renovation to enjoy a Graceland holiday tradition. Perez said: “We are excited to welcome the community to share in this wonderful evening of music and fellowship. It is a great time to meet GU student musicians and faculty members. This year there is the added excitement of experiencing the new Shaw Center, a truly world-class facility.”
The traditional holiday concert took place this year in the recently-expanded Shaw Center. If you have not seen the new Shaw Center, the annual concert is a good opportunity to take a peek at the new Carol Hall, the JR Theatre and the Gallery.
