Graceland University Professor of Psychology David Devonis, PhD
Graceland University Professor of Psychology David Devonis, PhD, recently attended the 51st Annual Meeting of Cheiron: International Society for the History of Behavioral and Social Sciences at MacEwan University, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, June 20-23. While there, he presented a poster connected to his ongoing project on the history of punishment in U.S. Psychology, “Punishment as a Boundary Marker Between Contemporary Sociology and Psychology,” and, as the society’s treasurer, he also participated as a member of the society’s review committee.
Devonis shares, “In terms of political resistance to provincial progressive initiatives and the restriction of the rights of public employees to bargain collectively, [I observe] that, at least in Alberta, the differences between the U.S. and Canada are currently superficially infinitesimal. On the other hand, as part of the program, the society was graced with a presentation by members of the kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre of MacEwan University on the ways in which respect for storytelling and elders can inform all levels of psychological practice.”
