Graceland University Professor of Education Dennis McElroy was among 25 people honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his work as part of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). The award was presented in June during ISTE’s conference in San Antonio, Texas.
The award recognizes United States citizens who have achieved the required number of hours of service over a 12-month period or cumulative hours over the course of a lifetime. ISTE honors individuals with this prestigious award who have volunteered at least 100 hours in ISTE volunteer activities per year.
“I volunteer my time with ISTE for several reasons,” said McElroy. “The integration of technology within the educational process is one of my passions. It has the potential to profoundly impact learners in any setting. Involvement with ISTE’s Teacher Education Network provides me the opportunity to work with amazing colleagues from around the world, and this engagement helps me to grow and stay on the cutting edge in my profession.”
McElroy serves on the board of ISTE’s Teacher Education Network (ISTETEN) and is the editor of the group’s monthly newsletter. He is also currently involved in two major projects: the design of a badging system for the new ISTE Teacher Standards and the creation of a pre-service teacher professional learning network.
