When the City of Independence announced the reopening of their buildings, they needed someone to help them test city workers and others entering the building for business, so they reached out to the Graceland University School of Nursing for help. Graceland Assistant Professor of Nursing Shawnna Jackson, RN, MSN, PHNA-BC, previously worked for the Independence Health Department and helped coordinate the effort.
Nursing students have been assisting in the effort by taking temperatures onsite, not only providing an important service to the community, but getting work experience as well.
Graceland nursing student Claudia Tang said, “I was happy to be a positive and health-focused representative of Graceland Nursing to the community of Independence.”
“It was an immense pleasure serving the community during a time they truly needed us,” added Christina Koch.
Graceland nursing students begin their next term on June 29 at the Independence, Missouri, campus.
