This weekend, the Graceland University and Culver Stockton College baseball teams will come together for a three-game series in the inaugural Strike Out Cancer event to benefit the Kansas University (KU) Cancer Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Graceland head coach Brady McKillip’s wife, Leslea, was diagnosed with stage 3 HER2 positive breast cancer in March 2017. KU Cancer Center and their team of doctors were instrumental in her treatment, and Leslea beat the disease. “Leslea has been cancer free since August of 2017, and this event was inspired by our desire to give something back to their incredible team,” Coach McKillip said.
During the Strike Out Cancer event and every Sunday for the remainder of the season, Graceland will wear limited-edition authentic navy and pink Nike jerseys that will go up for auction starting at 1 p.m. April 6.
Head coach Brady McKillip’s #4 jersey will be signed by both teams and their coaching staff.
Those interested in bidding on a uniform can go to [https://www.32auctions.com/GUBSBKOutCancer2019] from April 6-14.
Opening bids will begin at $100. For all jerseys except McKillip’s, an option to buy immediately for $200 will be available.
The first $50 of every jersey purchased will cover the costs, and the remaining proceeds will be donated to KU Cancer Center. Once the auction concludes at 6 p.m. April 14, winning bidders will be contacted for payment details. Freewill donations will also be accepted by those in attendance.
