The title of the panel was “Reimagining the Nation in Crisis: Sexual, Gender, and Diasporic Identities.” Montalvo’s contribution focused on how the characterization of historically marginalized subjectivities, particularly LGBTQ+ people, in contemporary Puerto Rican literature shed light on the shifts in national and cultural identity of the Puerto Rican people in the midst of the political, economic and natural disaster crisis the island faces.
