Graceland University Professor of Art Julia Franklin
Graceland University Professor of Art Julia Franklin, MFA, was interviewed on the Jan. 9 episode of Iowa Public Radio’s Talk of Iowa as one of the 2018 class of Iowa Art Fellowship fellows. She discusses her experience as a fellow and the very personal work in her exhibition “Picking Up the Pieces,” an art installation surrounding items of her father’s she came to posses years after his suicide when she was a teenager. The interview can be heard here. (Franklin’s interview begins at about the 31-minute mark.)
Franklin’s work is also featured in the January/February issue of dsm Magazine in an article also about her show “Picking up the Pieces.”
Additionally, Franklin was featured in an article in the Wichita Falls Times Record News on her piece, “Unfolding Heritage,” a mixed media work that focuses on her adoption, which was on view at the Juanita Harvey Gallery in the Fain Fine Arts Center on the campus of Midwestern State University.
All of these works are now on view at Graceland in The Helene Center for the Visual Arts galleries in Franklin’s interactive exhibition, “Picking Up the Pieces,” through March 1. It is free and open to the public.
