Graceland University is pleased to invite you and your family and friends to attend the third performance of the 2013-14 Performing Arts Series, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, on Thursday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Shaw Center. The Series features four culturally diverse ensembles, providing audiences of all ages special access to some of the world’s most distinctive and exciting performances.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s February 13 performance is a chance to see an internationally-acclaimed vocal ensemble whose mission is to unite people through music. Their message of peace, love and hope has been an inspiration to millions of people, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela. In 2013, Ladysmith Black Mambazo celebrates over fifty years of joyous and uplifting music that marries the intricate rhythms and harmonies of their native South African musical traditions to the sounds and sentiments of Christian gospel music. In those years, the a cappella vocal group has created a musical and spiritual alchemy that has touched a worldwide audience representing every corner of the religious, cultural and ethnic landscape. Their musical efforts over the past five decades have garnered praise and accolades within the recording industry, but also solidified their identity as a cultural force to be reckoned with. In addition to their work with Paul Simon, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has recorded with numerous artists from around the world.
Don’t miss this opportunity to see one of the most acclaimed vocal ensembles in the world! Tickets will go on sale 30 days prior to the event, beginning Monday, January 13. Tickets may be purchased online or at the Shaw Ticket Office, Monday through Friday, 9-12 noon and 1-4 pm. The Ticket Office phone number is 641.784.5296.
