Graceland University Assistant Professor of Communication Raquel Moreira, PhD, presented at the National Communication Association (NCA) Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, Nov. 8-12. She presented the paper “Abject Victims: Twin Peaks: The Return and Monstrous (White) Femininity,” in the paper session “I’ll See You Again in 25 Years: Playing With the (Im)Possibilities of Twin Peaks: The Return,” sponsored by the Critical and Cultural Studies Division.
Moreira also participated in the following panels: “Performing Academic Labor Precarity: Working Class to Class and Paycheck to Paycheck,” a panel Moreira co-wrote with Dr. Leslie Rossman and that was featured in NCA’s new interdisciplinary initiative, Collaboratories; “Glass Ceilings at Play: International Faculty Theorizing Connections among Globalization, Competition, and Meritocracy in the U.S. Academy,” a roundtable with scholars from several prestigious institutions sponsored by the Rhetorical and Communication Theory Division; “Vamos a Jugar: Mentorship and Social Bonding for the Latina/o/x Studies Division and La Raza Caucus,” a mentorship session with Latinx scholars of all rankings sponsored by the La Raza Caucus; and “Music, Play, and Vernacular Force,” a panel exploring music from marginalized communities sponsored by the Critical and Cultural Studies Division.
Moreira chaired the paper session, “Layers of Latina/o/x Identities in Decolonial, Immigration, and Racialization Contexts,” sponsored by the La Raza Caucus, and she was elected Parliamentarian of the Latina/o Communication Studies Division and La Raza Caucus.
