Graceland Announces SPECTACULAR Scholarships

The University awarded several scholarships at Community of Christ’s annual youth camp.

At the conclusion of the annual SPECTACULAR youth campan annual youth camp sponsored by Community of Christ, which takes place on Graceland’s Lamoni campus – Graceland awards several scholarships to exceptional individuals for their leadership, involvement in ministry, and athletic ability.

The Wallace B. Smith Scholarship is named after the former president of Community of Christ, Graceland’s sponsoring church, who served from 1978 to 1996. The scholarships named in his honor go to young prospective students attending SPECTACULAR who show the promise to make a significant contribution to the Graceland campus by modeling the university’s three core values: learning, wholeness, and community. Awards range from $500 to $2,500 and are renewable for up to four years.

  • Janae Scranton, Lee’s Summit, Mo.
  • Amanda Newton, Woodbine, Iowa
  • Sierra Davenport, Dodgeville, Wis.
  • Devin Kramer, Ardmore, Pa.
  • Eva Welch, Arvada, Colo.
  • Michael Martinez, Houston, Texas

The InSpire Scholarship is intended for students who are passionate about the mission of Community of Christ and are committed to continuing that interest while pursuing their education at Graceland University. The Graceland community provides many opportunities to promote the important work of the church’s mission initiatives – the InSpire Scholarship is offered to encourage Community of Christ students to attend Graceland and pursue those opportunities. Scholarships range up to $2,500 annually and are renewable for 4 years, awarded on a competitive basis each year at SPECTACULAR.

2023 InSpire Scholarship Winners:

  • Amanda Newton, Woodbine, Iowa
  • Sierra Davenport, Dodgeville, Wis.

The Thomas Cochran Memorial Volleyball Scholarship is given to volleyball players selected by the Graceland University coaching staff. Winners receive a $2,000 scholarship that is renewable for up to four years, totaling $8,000 with a fall 2024 entry.

  • Claire Mussell, Calizonia delegation
  • Eva Welch, Rockies delegation
  • Charlee Allison, Texas-New Mexico delegation

In addition to the scholarships listed above, which are specifically available to SPECTACULAR participants, Graceland has established several scholarships to help with the cost of earning a college degree and taking part in the Graceland experience.
