Writing Center

Located in room 119 of the FMS Library, the Graceland University Writing Center provides a supportive, welcoming environment where all Graceland students can work together with a trained tutor to improve their writing knowledge and skills. The Writing Center assists students in all majors and at any stage of the writing process to become better, more confident writers. The Writing Center offers both face-to-face tutoring (for students on the Lamoni campus) and online tutoring (for all Graceland University campuses and students).

How to Get Help

Lamoni Campus Students:

1. The Writing Center is located in the FMS Library, in room 119 on the first floor. If you would like to secure an appointment spot for a specific time or with a specific tutor, you can schedule an appointment using our online scheduler. Please select the in-person appointment option displayed there and follow the listed instructions.
2. You do not need an appointment to use the Writing Center in our location at the library room 119. If a tutor is available, they will be happy to assist you.
3. For your convenience, we also offer walk-in tutoring services in the Men’s and Women’s Residence Halls and Newcom Student Union during select times. Please refer to our online schedule for further clarification about times and locations.
4. If you would like to meet online, then you will also need an appointment. You can get an appointment by using our online scheduler. These will often be held via Zoom, but depending on your preference and tutor availability, asynchronous appointments are also an option via comments on Microsoft Word (or a similar program). Please select the online appointment option displayed there and follow the listed instructions.

Independence Campus, Distance Learning, and Graduate Students:

1. Students on the Independence campus can also set up an online appointment by using our online scheduler. These will also be held via Zoom, but depending on your preference and tutor availability, asynchronous appointments are an option via comments on Microsoft Word (or a similar program). Please select the online appointment option displayed there and follow the listed instructions.
2. If you are unable to find a time that works for you with the online scheduler, please email us at writingcenter@graceland.edu, and we will do our best to accommodate you with an asynchronous appointment within a timely manner.
